DOVER

Dover is a quintessential little town with a big personality.

It is located about three miles from Sandpoint on Highway 2 on the way to Priest River.

As with many areas in the region, her history probably begins with the timber industry.

The Northern Pacific Railroad came through Dover in 1883, the timber industry following. The town, platted in 1908, enjoyed a long history of lumber operations, from the Dover Lumber Company to the A.C. White Lumber Mill, to the Dover Mill owned by Pack River Management and others until it closed in 1989.

Dover Bay Resort and Marina as it sits today was an old mill lumber site. The community includes over 9 acres of parks and beaches, 9 miles of walking and biking trails which connect to the North Idaho Pathways.

The Dover Bay development began about 2003 and has transformed the old lumber mill site, with 285 acres and over a mile of shoreline, into a major development with a 274-slip marina, hundreds of home sites, condominiums, bungalows, boardwalk, a waterfront village area with a café, market, and fitness center. As with everything else, it struggled through the real estate fall and has slowly but surely made its mark in the area once again. It’s a quaint little location with a beautiful marina brimming with activity in the summer. Dover Bay has become actively involved in many community events.
